The Nintendo Switch dock is annoying

You have to put the Switch in exactly right. The travel dock from Nyko will be better, you can see what you are doing.
Sometimes the green light will come on, then off, on the dock, and the screen will then turn on, on the Switch. One picky dock and/or Switch.
